LOTO safety guides

Lockout/Tagout, UNI EN 17975:2025 and control of hazardous energy in maintenance.

A practical path through LOTO safety

Lockout/Tagout is the process used to isolate energy and fluids before maintenance, apply lockout devices and tags, and prevent unexpected reactivation. UNI EN 17975:2025 provides a shared European framework: it defines isolation processes, formal roles, traceability and the Try-Out used to verify that isolation is effective before work begins.

Start with the pillar guide to understand the standard and the complete sequence. The supporting guides then examine recurring maintenance accident dynamics, choosing an isolation process, parent/child lockout on complex plants, and the difference between paper and digital records in a GMP audit. Together they separate the safety of physical isolation from the quality and traceability of the evidence supporting it.

This section has an informational purpose. Where a plant needs to turn those requirements into a controlled operating process, the SmartLOTO page presents Eurosystem's application: selective padlock release and a digital audit trail designed around UNI EN 17975:2025.
